Interactive Metaverse Experience Revealed at El Gouna Film Festival

Stepping into the metaverse, the El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) presented a virtual edition powered by VR.Misr. Embracing modern tech trends, this new format opened up the festival to a wider audience, allowing people from around the world to participate and experience it firsthand.

During this year’s Cinematech pitching competition, powered by Gemini Africa, Hassan Hazem, founder of VR.Misr, shared his vision for “Cinema for Humanity.” His pitch emphasized how the metaverse and VR technology can enhance cinema accessibility, especially for individuals with disabilities. Hazem also proposed the creation of a dedicated film festival for digital movies, focusing on virtual reality and cinema education.

The virtual edition of the festival offered a digital experience reaching a larger audience, connecting them with filmmakers and fellow cinema enthusiasts in a new and immersive way. Participants could interact with their own AI avatar guide, created by VR.Misr, leading real-time conversations and Q&A sessions on festival highlights, film stars, awards, and cinema history. Now, the only thing missing is a feature to bring the cool seaside Gouna air to our bedrooms – maybe they’ll add that in next time.
