Maha Kumbh Mela 2025: Chaincode and Okto Collaborate to Provide Polygon-Powered NFT Tickets for Tent City Visitors
The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 commenced in Prayagraj on Monday, signaling the start of one of the largest religious gatherings globally. This year, Okto Wallet and Chaincode Consulting, focusing on blockchain technology, have joined forces to offer Polygon-based NFT tickets to attendees at the event. This innovative move aims to infuse a Web3 aspect into the traditional festivities, allowing visitors to obtain an NFT version of their train tickets for the Tent City set up in Prayagraj to cater to tourists.
Okto unveiled information about this new development on Tuesday, revealing that these NFT tickets will provide perks for tent bookings and amenities at the Maha Kumbh Mela.
“Travelers booking tickets for specific Indian Railways services and the Kumbh Mela Tent City reservation will be granted an NFT rendition of their tickets. These NFTs will be securely stored in their Okto Wallet, offering a distinct, personalized digital souvenir,” Okto’s announcement mentioned.
Moreover, holders of these NFT tickets can capture their photos and videos on the Polygon blockchain, which will host these unique digital assets.
Chaincode explained to Gadgets 360 that NFTs for ticket acquisitions will be facilitated through NFTTrace, Chaincode’s primary product that tokenizes assets like tickets, certificates, and land records into NFTs.
Okto is a multi-chain self-custodial crypto wallet introduced by Indian exchange CoinDCX in 2022. Conversely, Polygon is an Ethereum-based layer-2 blockchain developed by Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal, and Anurag Arjun.
Alok Gupta, the founder and CEO of Chaincode, clarified to Gadgets 360 that these NFTs are not tradable and do not hold any financial value beyond Kumbh-related privileges and advantages.
“At its essence, Web3 is designed for everyday users, and what better occasion to introduce it on this scale than the Maha Kumbh? Our aim is to enhance this sacred experience and make it even more extraordinary and memorable. This marks a significant step in Web3 adoption, and we are excited to make it inclusive, impactful, and meaningful for all,” stated Rohit Jain, Head of DeFi initiatives at CoinDCX and Okto.
This is not the initial instance of incorporating an NFT twist to commemorate a festival in India. In March 2023, the IRCTC unveiled vibrant NFT tickets for two Tejas trains traveling between Delhi and Lucknow to celebrate the spirit of Holi. The IRCTC, managed by the Ministry of Railways, is a central public sector enterprise in the country.
