Man who falsely claimed to be bitcoin creator referred to Child Protective Services

The case involving Craig Wright, an Australian computer scientist who made false claims of being the creator of bitcoin, has been forwarded to the Crown Prosecution Service for potential prosecution on charges of perjury and forgery.

In a legal battle in March, Wright was defeated by a coalition of cryptocurrency businesses who had sued him to prevent him from enforcing his claim in court. The presiding judge, Mr Justice Mellor, quickly delivered an oral verdict stating that Wright is not the author of the bitcoin white paper, as evidenced by Wright’s extensive lies and forged documents.

Wright’s written evidence was flagged as potentially forged even before the trial began, with his own expert witnesses raising doubts. Despite these allegations, Wright dismissed them during cross-examination, claiming his documents were flawless if he had indeed forged them.

Following Tuesday’s ruling, Judge Mellor decided to refer relevant documents from the case to the CPS to determine whether criminal charges should be brought against Wright for his perjury and document forgery.

An earlier court case where Wright sued a bitcoin personality for defamation ended in a victory for Wright. However, the judge concluded that Wright had presented a false case and awarded only nominal damages of £1.
