Microsoft urges shareholders to vote against investment in Bitcoin, according to SEC filing

Microsoft Asks Shareholders To Vote Against Investing In Bitcoin: Sec Filing - Decrypt

Microsoft, a software giant, is set to host a shareholders meeting next month, and Bitcoin will be a topic of discussion.

The annual shareholders meeting for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is scheduled for December 9, where investors will vote on various items, as disclosed in a filing by the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.

One of the proposals up for voting is the “Assessment of investing in Bitcoin,” with the board recommending shareholders to vote against it.

The exact nature of the proposal regarding Microsoft investing in Bitcoin is unclear. Microsoft has not yet responded to Decrypt’s request for clarification.

The filing also mentions that “Microsoft’s management already carefully considers this topic.”

As one of the largest software companies globally, Microsoft currently accepts Bitcoin as payment from customers shopping on its Windows and Xbox stores.

If Microsoft proceeds to invest in Bitcoin, it would join a select group of U.S. companies doing so.

Another software company, MicroStrategy, began purchasing Bitcoin in 2020 and now holds the largest amount of the cryptocurrency among corporate entities.

Despite its positive impact on shareholders, many tech companies have yet to consider investing in Bitcoin.
