VESTAL, NY (WSKG) – The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation pushed back its cutoff time to arrive at a choice over a disputable Finger Lakes power plant and Bitcoin mining office Thursday.

The ecological controller composed that it still up in the air “the sufficiency” of ozone depleting substance relief measures proposed by Greenidge Generation. In a letter remembered for the DEC’s update, Greenidge proposed a condition to its new license that the office be “zero carbon emitting” by 2030.

“We look forward to finalizing a strong, renewed Title V Permit to allow Greenidge to continue its environmental and economic stewardship in New York,” a Greenidge representative wrote in a statement.

Environmental activists went against to the plant rejected the DEC’s postponement. Yvonne Taylor, VP of Seneca Lake Guardian, blamed New York Gov. Kathy Hochul of postponing the choice on political grounds.

“This is an apparent attempt to cover her own political interests and a complete abdication of her responsibility,” Taylor said on a call with correspondents Friday.

The next cutoff time forced by the DEC is June 30, two days after statewide essential elections.

Taylor repeated her require the state Legislature to pass a bill by Ithaca Assemblymember Anna Kelles (D-125) to execute a transitory ban on some cryptographic money mining.
