Tezos Jumps Into Esports With Team Vitality Partnership

Esports, esports, esports. 2021 was a massive year for casual and competitive gaming, and now Tezos, who hasn’t been shy when it comes to unique and engaging sports partnerships, is grabbing a slice of esports action for themselves.

In an announcement to round out the first week of the new year, Tezos is partnering with major European esports organization, Team Vitality. Let’s dive into what Tezos has been up to in sports sponsorship lately, and what esports and gaming engagement has looked like with crypto and blockchain firms thus far.

The Biggest European Esports Deal In History?

The Tezos and Vitality partnership is already being touted as the largest European esports deal in history. The partnership will kick off this year and run until 2024. Tezos will have brand marks across all player jerseys throughout competitive play for Vitality, an org with competitive players in League of Legends, Rocket League, and CS:GO – three of the biggest titles historically in competitive gaming. Vitality described the deal as “the biggest partnership in Team Vitality history.”

Mason Edwards, Chief of Staff at the Tezos Foundation, had this to say regarding the new partnership:

“This is a significant step forward for Europe’s leading esports team as the blockchain and gaming industries continue to build a fan and player-centric future for esports. The decision from Team Vitality to choose the energy-efficient Tezos blockchain as a technical partner is another signal to the established and growing gaming vertical that low gas fees, forkless upgradability, and ease-of-use are the key factors driving the next wave of adoption for blockchain technologies.”

Tezos Partnerships Thus Far…

While Tezos has previously dabbled in esports, they haven’t engaged in the space at a level even close to this week’s partnership thus far.

The headlining partnership for Tezos in sport thus far is easily last year’s deal with Red Bull’s F1 racing team. The blockchain also paired up with Ubisoft for their first NFTs around their gaming title Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which have had a tepid consumer response.

Tezos is clearly working to position itself as a business enterprise solution and major competitor for firms that want to engage in the NFT and blockchain landscape, leaning into messaging around the platform’s low gas fees and energy-efficiency.

New year, new beginnings.
