Bandai Namco Entertainment Unveils Gundam Metaverse on AWS

A high-quality, immersive Metaverse powered by Amazon GameLift Streams is now available with low latency for fans worldwide; exclusive merchandise can be purchased by US fans via Amazon Anywhere.
TOKYO — Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), has announced the launch of the Gundam Metaverse by Bandai Namco Entertainment, Inc., a prominent game publisher in Japan, on AWS, the leading cloud provider globally, catering to fans around the world.
The Gundam Metaverse leverages the new Amazon GameLift Streams feature on AWS, creating a virtual space for Gundam enthusiasts to gather, interact, shop, and immerse themselves in the Gundam universe via PCs and smartphones in just minutes.
This Metaverse blends digital and physical experiences via the cloud, allowing fans to explore rich worlds of the Gundam franchise, purchase exclusive merchandise, play mini-games featuring user-created Gundam models with others, and participate in virtual live events, all at low latency on any device.
Opened on April 20, the Gundam Metaverse is accessible to fans globally, featuring language support in English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), and Japanese, and attracting enthusiasts from more than 20 countries, including the US, China, and Japan. This Metaverse is available for a limited time until May 19 on https://gmpj.bn-ent.net/en.
The Gundam franchise is owned by the Bandai Namco Group. To fulfill the Group’s vision of connecting with fans, its gaming division, Bandai Namco Entertainment, has partnered with AWS’s media and entertainment industry experts to create the Gundam Metaverse as a platform for fans to co-create the Gundam universe.
Using Amazon GameLift Streams, the game publisher can deliver an immersive Metaverse environment with high-quality 3D graphics and low-latency access from standard PCs and smartphones, making it accessible to Gundam fans across different regions and generations. Amazon GameLift Streams is a new feature of Amazon GameLift, a fully managed service on AWS that helps developers create and deliver high-demand games. The integration of Amazon Translate, a fast, high-quality machine translation service, within the chat function allows fans using English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), and Japanese to communicate in real-time.
Gundam is a renowned Japanese sci-fi franchise centered on giant robots, originating from the 1979 TV animation Mobile Suit Gundam, which set the stage for the mecha animation genre. The series has since produced a wide array of content, including TV shows, films, and original video animations, garnering a global fanbase. The latest installment, ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX,’ premiered in April 2025 and is available in over 240 countries and territories via Prime Video, receiving a positive response from anime fans worldwide.
With assistance from AWS Professional Services, Bandai Namco Entertainment established a game development environment on AWS to facilitate secure and efficient collaboration among creators and engineers across geographic boundaries. By integrating version control and backup solutions on AWS, the company safely manages valuable game assets while significantly cutting operational costs. Furthermore, establishing a continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipeline integrated with Unreal Engine on AWS enables on-demand game builds using Amazon EC2 G4 instances, enhancing global team collaboration and accelerating development cycles. The company also aims to utilize Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service for building and scaling generative AI applications, to further boost development efficiency.
Additionally, Bandai Namco Entertainment has incorporated Amazon Anywhere into its Metaverse, allowing U.S. Gundam fans to purchase real products seen in digital environments. Using the Amazon shopping feature available in the United States, fans can buy 29 physical items—including popular Gundam model kits—without exiting the digital realm.
Nao Udagawa, President & CEO of Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., stated, “AWS has empowered Gundam fans in Japan and globally to connect without borders, enabling us to launch seamless and immersive services available to everyone, anywhere. The low-latency, highly available services from AWS’s global infrastructure accelerate our content development, driving new surprises and emotional experiences for our fans.”
“Japan stands as a cultural icon in the global media and entertainment sector, attracting enthusiasts around the world, and Gundam is a significant piece of that tapestry, blending the creativity of various creators, builders, and fans,” remarked Akihiko Shirahata, President at AWS Japan. “We are thrilled to partner closely with Bandai Namco Entertainment to expand this cherished cultural emblem into immersive digital experiences. AWS is honored to contribute to the mission of advancing the global growth of Japan’s prominent media and entertainment landscape using generative AI and other advanced technologies.”
