Classical Theatre Joins the Metaverse: Macbeth Takes Over Roblox

On May 7, 2025, as part of the National Arts Council (NAC)’s Project Arts Metaverse, Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) launched its first immersive Macbeth experience on Roblox. This initiative is backed by the project management and innovation team at TBWA\Singapore.

Drawing inspiration from SRT’s 2025 Shakespeare in the Park – Macbeth production, this innovative virtual experience, created by Metakey in collaboration with MeshMinds on Roblox, invites players to enter the psyche of Macbeth, the Thane of Glamis (the main character in Shakespeare’s Macbeth). Set in a stylized sci-fi environment, players will immerse themselves in the drama and tension of pivotal scenes from the classic tragedy while grappling with the choices and dire consequences of the protagonist’s ambitious desires.

The Project Arts Metaverse (PAM) is an industry-led Alliance for Action (AfA) initiated by the NAC and its partners to develop groundbreaking virtual experiences that create new avenues for audience engagement and arts exploration. With guidance from TBWA’s expertise in innovation and metaverse technologies, members of the AfA participated in Discovery and Visioning workshops in early 2024 to refine and shape project concepts. PAM will feature the creation of four innovative pilot experiences, with SRT’s reimagining of Macbeth on Roblox serving as the inaugural launch.
