Experts Predict Bright Future Despite Derision of NFTs and Metaverse
The panel discussion at the Benzinga Future of Digital Assets event focused on NFTs and the metaverse, sparking conversations about their potential despite current doubts. Following the panel, Ian Horne, head of content at Money20/20 Amsterdam, shared his insights on the future evolution and broader acceptance of these technologies.
Horne acknowledged the criticism faced by NFTs and the metaverse, attributing it to unrealistic expectations and failed projects. However, he maintained that the fundamental concepts behind these technologies are still relevant for the future of digital interaction.
“While these concepts have faced criticism for recent failures,” Horne stated, “the long-term potential of a thriving metaverse and the significance of NFTs in shaping identity and online relationships are still valid.”
The panel discussion, featuring Alex Salnikov from Rarible, explored practical uses of NFTs and metaverse technology in transforming online experiences. Horne emphasized the importance of discussing these ideas in a realistic manner to help audiences grasp their potential.
Addressing skepticism, Horne suggested that widespread adoption of these technologies would occur when seamlessly integrated into daily activities without being explicitly labeled as NFTs or metaverse applications.
“The true adoption of these technologies will happen when we no longer identify them as the metaverse or NFTs,” Horne explained. Instead, users will interact with digital tools like tokens or online marketplaces without needing to understand the underlying technology.
Horne emphasized the focus should be on the value that these technologies bring rather than their technical complexities. “When we emphasize the value rather than the technology, that’s when we’re truly succeeding,” he added.
The panel discussion underscored the belief that, despite challenges, the long-term potential of NFTs and the metaverse lies in their seamless integration into the digital realm, shaping how people interact online.
