Ikea to Offer £13 an Hour for Virtual Staff in Roblox Metaverse Store

Taking remote working to a new level, Ikea is offering £13 an hour for ten employees to help with its new virtual store on Roblox.

These virtual positions will include tasks such as assisting customers and serving digital meatballs, merging the worlds of gaming and work.

With a launch date approaching, Ikea’s digital store on Roblox will hire staff to aid customers in navigating the store and choosing furniture. The job advertisement vows that “fans will be able to live out their home furnishing fantasies and get paid for it.”

Potential employees must first complete a unique questionnaire, with questions like, “How do you feel about being transformed into pixels?” and “What would you do if we ran out of pixelated hot dogs in our bistro?” Qualified candidates will then go through virtual interviews.

Ikea is the first retailer to offer paid positions on Roblox, hoping to attract young talent to their real-world workforce. Roblox, a platform where users can play and create games, has over 77 million daily active users, with a large portion aged 17-24. Popular games on the platform often involve work simulations, which aligns well with Ikea’s hiring strategy.
