Is the Metaverse still the true representation of virtual reality?
The metaverse space is evolving. It serves as a space in which users can gain entry into the virtual arena in a bid to exchange several items like avatars, NFTs, event tickets, and many more. Metaverse provides enablement for both the hybrid and virtual space to co-exist easily. As a 3-D web space, it is based on Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, thereby allowing users to explore the digital universe.
Metaverse, as a terminology, came alive through a 1992 novel called Snow Crash. The novel was written by Neal Stephenson. It gave an insight into how human avatars and software demons dwell in a 3D universe, transforming the way we communicate with one another. So, the metaverse, as an innovative concept, brings together a combination of different technologies, including augmented reality, blockchain, and many more.
By leveraging these technologies, Metaverse offers a host of benefits to users. They include immersive experiences, global connectivity, advanced social engagement, business opportunities, enhanced gaming experience, and many others. However, despite the benefits offered by the innovation, it is still yet to record the expected level of adoption.
Analysts have, however, identified some factors restraining the mainstream adoption of metaverse. Some of the factors identified are cybercrime, cultural impact, privacy and security issues, digital bullying, addiction, impact on mental health, and many more. All these factors have in one way or the other hindered the growth of metaverse. Also, it has birthed questions as to whether the innovation is still the real virtual reality or not.
