Napster reemerges in the metaverse

Napster, originally known for music sharing and later music streaming, has been acquired by a metaverse specialist looking to transform it into a platform focused on immersive musical experiences.
The goal is to breathe new life into a brand with a rich Internet history, leveraging immersive technologies and AI tools from Infinite Reality, experts in cutting-edge immersive experiences driven by artificial intelligence.
Founded in 1999, Napster disrupted the music industry with its peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing capabilities. However, legal issues led to its closure in 2001, paving the way for other file-sharing solutions like Emule, KaZaa, and LimeWire. Despite multiple ownership changes and reinventions as a music streaming service, Napster failed to find lasting success.
Now, under new ownership, Napster will become a unique platform offering immersive experiences in virtual 3D spaces. This will enable artists to engage directly with fans through live concerts, exclusive listening sessions, and merchandise sales.
While launch details for these new features are pending, the move demonstrates the ongoing interest in using the metaverse to redefine the connection between artists and their fan base. – AFP Relaxnews
