Rockstar Games collaborates with leading metaverse creators to explore turning “Grand Theft Auto” into the ultimate creator platform

Rockstar Games is preparing to turn “Grand Theft Auto VI” into the next major metaverse platform.
With the release of “GTA 6” later this year, Rockstar aims to not only have the biggest video game launch of the decade, but also to transition the “GTA” series into a full-fledged creator platform.
According to three industry insiders familiar with the discussions, Rockstar Games has been engaging in talks with top Roblox and Fortnite creators, as well as dedicated “GTA” content creators, to explore the possibility of creating personalized experiences within the upcoming game. These experiences would enable creators to alter the game’s environment and assets to incorporate their own intellectual property and potentially their brand sponsors into “GTA’s” virtual world.
Rockstar Games representatives did not respond to requests for comment prior to the article’s publication.
As of now, the discussions have been somewhat open-ended, and it is unclear how creators would benefit from integrating their IP and audiences into “GTA 6” aside from the exposure gained by being part of one of the world’s most popular gaming franchises. Creators on other metaverse platforms, often known as user-generated content (UGC) creators, can earn money through virtual item sales or revenue share programs.
