Smart Buildings: The Key to Unlocking the Next Metaverse

For decades, we’ve dedicated ourselves to modeling buildings. Now, it’s time for these buildings to reciprocate and model us.

In recent years, we’ve witnessed a remarkable surge in the integration of digital technology within physical infrastructure. From IoT sensors and AI-driven energy dashboards to real-time digital twins, the built environment is finally aligning with the intelligence era. However, these innovations have merely scratched the surface of their potential.

I refer to this concept as a hyper-intelligent building, or HIB for short. It’s a platform, a framework, and a mindset for evolving existing buildings into responsive, interactive, and self-enhancing systems. Like any robust foundation, HIB is only the starting point. Our next step involves introducing hyper-intelligent communities (HIC), a sustained, AI-powered metaverse where buildings, stakeholders, and their data can coexist, collaborate, and evolve together.
