Wales is the first nation in the UK to launch a metaverse experience
Wales has made history as the first UK nation to enter the metaverse, offering virtual visitors from around the globe a glimpse of what they can explore in real life.
Visit Wales has created an immersive experience to ignite the curiosity of future tourists, showcasing the diverse range of experiences, places, and attractions waiting to be discovered in Wales.
Virtual visitors can navigate through a Welsh-inspired landscape, getting a taste of the country’s culture and heritage through various features, including:
- A historic castle with a hidden map of Wales
- A cable car ride, reminiscent of Llandudno, for seamless travel within the metaverse
- An amphitheatre resembling the one in Roman-era Caerleon, featuring screens displaying Wales’ vibrant music and culture
The Wales metaverse, hosted on the Spatial platform, attracts 600 million global visitors annually across multiple metaverse platforms, showcasing Wales in a unique and innovative way.
Being the first UK nation and potentially the first European nation to embrace the metaverse for tourism promotion, Wales offers visitors the opportunity to embark on quests, such as finding hidden dragons and creating interactive itineraries highlighting real-life accommodations, attractions, and events.
BBC News’ gaming and culture correspondent, Steffan Powell, hosted a virtual launch event on May 9th, inviting everyone to explore Wales in a whole new way.
