Former Disney CEO Bob Iger (and his symbol) is entering the metaverse.

Iger is putting resources into and joining the leading body of an organization called Genies, which allows clients to make their own computerized symbols for use in virtual universes (you can see Iger’s symbol above). Iger joins Genies CEO and prime supporter Akash Nigam, Genies fellow benefactor Evan Rosenbaum and financial speculators Mary Meeker and Rick Yang on the Genies board.

Genies has become well known among big names, including Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Lil Nas X. The organization likewise has associations with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group for symbols and NFTs.

“I’ve always been drawn to the intersection between technology and art, and Genies provides unique and compelling opportunities to harness the power of that combination to enable new forms of creativity, expression and communication,” said Iger in an explanation. “After spending the last few months getting to know Akash and learning more about Genies, I am very excited about his vision and how it will be fulfilled and I look forward to working with the entire team.”

With discuss both the metaverse and web3 (a trendy expression firmly connected with crypto innovation), Genies is attempting to situate itself as the eventual fate of online character, whether that future is in virtual universes or on the blockchain… or both. The expectation is that after clients make their symbol, it tends to be utilized all over and in each application (or virtual world).

And Iger, who formally left Disney at the end of the year, is investigating the metaverse similarly as his replacement Bob Chapek starts investigating a comparative area. Chapek refered to the metaverse in his reminder outlining three strategic “pillars” for the organization in January. Furthermore, in February Disney tapped executive Mike White to lead its metaverse methodology. Yet, while DIsney is probably taking a gander at the metaverse as a chance to recount stories, Iger is wagering that soon enough every last one of us will encounter that Disney content in the metaverse through our own animation renditions of ourselves.
