Another NFT Blockchain Game Revealed by Ubisoft

Introducing Might & Magic Fates, a forthcoming trading card game inspired by the Might and Magic universe. Unlike Ubisoft’s previous NFT titles – which, at the very least, were sneakily released for us to enjoy and chuckle at – Fates has only been announced and not yet launched, leaving us in the dark about what the game entails – no gameplay, no graphics, and no storyline mentioned.
As stated on Fates’ website, players can expect traditional card game mechanics where they can craft decks by combining creatures, spells, artifacts, buildings, and heroes from various Might & Magic factions. They can then challenge other players, expand their card collections through trading, gameplay, or by opening booster packs containing cards of different rarities.
The catch lies in the aspect of trading and owning cards. Despite being a Ubisoft property, the game is being worked on in collaboration with Immutable, a cryptocurrency company specializing in blockchain games and NFTs. According to the game’s Q&A, players will have the ability to trade their cards using the Immutable blockchain and own them as NFTs, contributing to Ubisoft’s foray into Web3 technology and turning the first Might & Magic title in over a decade into a blockchain game – not exactly the comeback fans were expecting.
In a surprising turn of events, it appears that by 2025, Ubisoft has come to realize that the vast majority of gamers strongly resent the concept of blockchain gaming. In an effort to quell potential backlash, Might & Magic Fates emphasizes that its “Web3 layer that unlocks digital ownership” is an optional feature for players to engage with.
