Axie Infinity hints at a new Web3 game launch amid rising optimism around NFTs

Recently, the non-fungible token (NFT) gaming project Axie Infinity unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming video game, Atia’s Legacy, a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game set in the Axie universe. The game was announced by Sky Mavis on Nov. 25, following company layoffs that freed up resources for multiple projects heading into the year 2025. Trung Nguyen, the co-founder and CEO of Sky Mavis, mentioned that one of these projects was the development of the new Axie game.
On March 6, Sky Mavis released the game trailer, providing a glimpse into Atia’s Legacy. The team described the game as “the next chapter” in the Axie universe, focusing on empowering players with true asset ownership. The trailer showcased several enhancements from its initial version, including 3D combat, mini-games, and a farming simulator.
Sky Mavis also introduced referral rewards in AXS to attract players to the game. They mentioned that users who successfully refer their friends would receive the game’s native tokens as a reward. Additionally, Sky Mavis plans to release a playable minimum viable product with features like squad-based combat, unified progression, and social interactions, although no specific timeline was provided.
Meanwhile, in the realm of blockchain gaming, Gunzilla Games updated its blockchain shooter Off The Grid on Feb. 28, incorporating gameplay improvements. These developments coincide with a positive outlook on NFTs as the US regulatory landscape evolves, with the SEC closing investigations on NFT marketplace OpenSea and the NFT company Yuga Labs.
Overall, the landscape of blockchain gaming continues to evolve and grow as more companies and projects explore the potential of this emerging technology.
