OpenSea Unveils Enhanced OS2 Platform; SEA Airdrop Announcement Coming Soon

OpenSea, a marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), has officially launched its OpenSea2 (OS2) upgrade to the public after completing its beta phase.

This updated platform now supports token trading across 19 different blockchains, as it expands its focus from solely NFTs to the broader cryptocurrency market.

“OS2 is the foundation for the next generation of OpenSea,” stated Devin Finzer, co-founder and CEO of OpenSea. “We’ve completely rebuilt the platform to be the top destination for everything on-chain, from NFTs to tokens, across various chains and communities.”

The company also unveiled a revamped rewards system that acknowledges on-chain activities with XP points. This system, named Voyages, rewards users for completing basic tasks such as sharing a gallery, conducting an on-chain swap, or purchasing an NFT.

“Voyages represent a significant shift towards more intentional engagement on OpenSea,” Finzer explained. “It’s designed to inspire users to discover the full capabilities of the platform across different chains, assets, and experiences.”

Eventually, users will be able to leverage accumulated XP to claim the eagerly awaited airdrop of SEA, the upcoming native token of OpenSea.

Adam Hollander, OpenSea’s chief marketing officer, mentioned in a blog post that he “reads comments every day” regarding the token’s release, but emphasizes that the OpenSea Foundation will conduct the token generation event (TGE) only after a series of releases have been completed.

“Having spent the last four years trading alongside you, I understand the anticipation for a $SEA airdrop,” Hollander remarked. “However, this isn’t just another TGE — it’s the definitive one. Ensuring its success will benefit not only the Foundation and OpenSea but our entire community.”

The company has yet to announce a specific date for the token’s release.
