Pos Indonesia Introduces Blockchain-Backed Stamp Collection as NFT Craze Subsides

As Nft Hype Wanes, Pos Indonesia Unveils Blockchain-Backed Stamp Collection

Jakarta. Despite the fading buzz around NFTs (non-fungible tokens), state-owned postal service company Pos Indonesia is forging ahead by launching its inaugural NFT stamp collection.

“This is a collectible item, and for those interested in philately, its value will increase over time, making it an investment tool,” said CEO Faizal Rochmad Djoemadi during the 79th Postal Service Day celebration at Pos Indonesia’s headquarters in Bandung, West Java, on Friday.

Faizal noted that Pos Indonesia’s NFT stamps are designed to attract younger generations to philately, offering a more accessible and valuable collecting experience.

The idea was inspired by Indonesia’s membership in the Universal Postal Union (UPU), where countries like the Netherlands, Malaysia, and Thailand have already introduced NFT stamps.

The first Indonesian NFT stamp features the Bird of Paradise (Cenderawasih), a species popular among international collectors. Each stamp comes with a physical counterpart, equipped with a unique serial number recorded on the blockchain to guarantee authenticity, prevent counterfeiting, and enable trading.

Faizal emphasized that the blockchain-secured serial numbers enhance the stamps’ value, making them impossible to duplicate. “Like currency, each stamp now has a serial number stored on the blockchain, making it unique and inimitable,” he said.

These limited-edition stamps will be available on Pos Indonesia’s official website, and Faizal hopes they will become rare, valuable collectibles.

NFTs experienced peak popularity in 2021, driven largely by speculation. However, corrections in 2022 and 2023 led to a significant drop in NFT trading volumes and values. According to Appdevelopermagazine.com, approximately 96 percent of NFTs are now considered “dead,” meaning they lack active trading or engagement.
