Soneium, Sony’s new venture, introduces groundbreaking music NFT collection, marking a new chapter for artists.

Sony’s blockchain project, Soneium, has stepped into the music industry with the release of its debut music NFT collection in partnership with Coop Records. This collection contains exclusive, unreleased tracks from Japanese music producer NUU$HI, showcasing the intersection of blockchain technology and the music industry.
Available on Soneium’s NFT marketplace, Sonova, the collection features a 22-minute track priced at 0.000777 Ether (around $2.12). The platform aims to democratize music ownership while ensuring fair compensation for artists.
Revolutionizing the Music Industry with Blockchain
Coop Records, an on-chain music label, has brought over 125 artists to blockchain in the past year, including Zeds Dead, San Holo, and Barry Can’t Swim. With over 600 songs on-chain, the label promotes transparency and equitable revenue sharing, revolutionizing traditional music industry structures.
Cooper Turley, founder of Coop Records, is optimistic about blockchain-driven music distribution, stating, “Crypto is entering the era where apps take center stage, with tokens empowering creators and power users.”
The crypto community agrees, with 2025 being hailed as the start of the “app season” where blockchain applications play a central role in real-world scenarios.
Soneium’s Growth and Adoption
Since its launch in January 2025, Soneium, an Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain, has seen significant growth:
- 248,000+ active accounts
- 1.8 million blockchain interactions in just the past month
Soneium aims to empower creators by providing fair recognition and compensation for their work. While Sony Music Group has yet to fully integrate with Soneium, deeper collaborations with the music industry are anticipated.
Sony’s Blockchain Initiatives
Besides Soneium, Sony is actively involved in the blockchain space with initiatives like:
- Fan Marketing Platform: Streamlining NFT issuance for brands, creators, and enterprises.
- S.BLOX NFT Campaign: Preparing to launch an NFT distribution campaign.
These projects demonstrate Sony’s vision of using blockchain for fan engagement, intellectual property protection, and revenue-sharing enhancements.
The Future of Music and Blockchain
With a focus on music and entertainment, Soneium’s debut NFT collection with Coop Records is just the beginning. More exclusive music releases are expected on Sonova, indicating a transformation of the music industry through blockchain.
As Web3 adoption rises, platforms like Soneium and Coop Records could revolutionize the industry, offering artists new ways to own, monetize, and distribute their music, while providing fans with true ownership of digital assets.
The music industry is evolving, with blockchain leading the way.
