ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC) is set to convene on June 2 to discuss regulatory measures and the legal framework pertaining to digital and crypto currencies in Pakistan, as announced by the Finance Ministry on Friday.

The meeting will be chaired by Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and will include attendees such as PCC chief Bilal Bin Saqib, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and the secretaries from the ministries of law and information technology.

The Finance Ministry highlighted that the agenda will focus on crafting a robust regulatory framework for digital and virtual assets in Pakistan, ensuring alignment with international standards and technological advancements.

The convening of this meeting serves as a strategic forum to evaluate regulations and the legal landscape surrounding crypto in Pakistan, with a central discussion point being the initial steps toward establishing the ‘Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority.’

This proposed authority will function as an autonomous body dedicated to managing the digital finance and crypto ecosystem within the country. “This meeting showcases the government’s commitment to building a financial infrastructure that guarantees stability and regulation in the burgeoning digital economy,” it stated.

As per the Finance Ministry, the council is focused on creating a secure, transparent, and regulatory environment aimed at the responsible adoption of blockchain technology, along with the promotion of investor protection and financial inclusion.
