SEC under Trump administration establishes dedicated team to develop regulatory framework for digital assets

Trump’s SEC launches ‘crypto task force’ to provide clear guidelines for digital assets

Commissioner Hester Peirce was seen during an open meeting of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Recent events at the SEC have been moving quickly under the new Trump administration. Former SEC chair Gary Gensler, who has been critical of cryptocurrencies, resigned on Monday. President Donald J. Trump then appointed Mark T. Uyeda as Acting Chairman of the agency on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Uyeda announced the formation of a crypto task force focused on creating a clear regulatory framework for crypto assets, with Hester Peirce, known affectionately as “CryptoMom,” appointed to lead the task force.

Peirce earned her nickname from the industry due to her positive stance on digital assets and her opposition to excessive regulation in this area. She was nominated to the SEC by President Trump in 2018. Prior to her role at the SEC, Peirce conducted research on financial markets at George Mason University’s Mercatus Center and served as a senior counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
