Quentin Tarantino Recruits Copyright Expert for ‘Pulp Fiction’ NFT Battle
The battle between Quentin Tarantino and Miramax over script NFTs is becoming a focal point in entertainment legal circles. Studio executives are now starting to understand the potential value of movie memorabilia in the digital world. They are concerned about actors, producers, or even writers profiting from this emerging field.
In case you missed it, Miramax, now under the leadership of C.E.O. Bill Block and co-owned by a Qatari media company and ViacomCBS, filed a lawsuit against Tarantino on Tuesday. The lawsuit claims that he does not have the right to sell “non-fungible tokens” of his handwritten Pulp Fiction script pages because Miramax owns the copyright and NFTs were not part of the “reserved rights” negotiated in the early ’90s. The complaint, prepared by a team of six litigators at Proskauer Rose, alleges breach of contract, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and unfair competition.
