Immerse yourself in alternate reality with this leading-edge experience in the gallery at the Elora Centre for the Arts! ‘Journey to the Metaverse’ by generative artist Gord Harris will introduce viewers to the magic of synesthesia – when one sensation triggers another – using custom 3D computer art projections that react to music.

The exhibition is a great example of STEAM in action (science, technology, engineering, art and math). Visitors will wear Bluetooth-enabled 3D glasses to fully experience the ‘journey’. There are different areas set up as you walk through the gallery, including a station where the user can try manipulating the images as they wish, to get a sense of controlling the movement of the projection.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our community to be exposed to this type of high-tech, virtual reality art form” said Lianne Carter, Executive Director at the Arts Centre. Gord Harris has spent over a year preparing for this exhibition. Harris is a Creative Technologist, Display Engineer, Interactive Producer, Visual Music Specialist, Photographer and overall Tech and Music Junkie. The first part of his career took place at IMAX and Christie Digital, and now in “retirement” he continues his education and exploration in the digital arts.

An Opening Reception for the exhibition will be held on Saturday Feb. 3 from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to meet the artist and view the gallery as the exhibition launches.

‘Journey to the Metaverse’ runs until March 17, and will be open each week Wednesday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday 12-4 p.m. Admission is free.

The artist would like to acknowledge the support of the Ontario Arts Council.

Get an even deeper immersive experience! There will be a live music concert on one night only – Saturday Feb. 24 – featuring music by composer Jeff Collinson during the large-scale visual projections on the wall of the gallery. The combination of immersive technology and live music is sure to inspire and impress. Tickets are $20. More information and tickets can be found here.
